Taylor Kohrs recently completed construction of the new Enterprise Green Community, Vistas at Panorama Pointe, in Westminster. The 63,000-square foot, four-story seniors apartment building includes 69 units with a combination of one- and two-bedroom floor plans with private balconies and covered parking.

The building, developed by Mendel Development Company LLC and Elkco, was designed by LAI Design Group. The existing community center was the design’s starting point. The new apartments tie into the community center on the second floor, allowing residents to utilize the space without leaving their building.

“The new four-story stick frame building is just 10 inches away from the existing community center,” said Scott Heasty, vice president of operations at Taylor Kohrs. “Supporting the new building without compromising the existing building’s foundation required a slot excavation technique to stabilize the soil.”

Due to the extreme hillside location, construction required six mechanically stabilized earth walls totaling 1,300 linear feet, each ranging from 3 to 15 feet tall. Another aspect of the project that helped reduce the construction timeline is Taylor Kohrs panelized the wood framing package, which allows for quicker assembly without compromising quality.

Enterprise Green Communities takes a holistic approach to allow developers, investors, builders and policymakers to bring the improved health, economic and environmental benefits of sustainable construction practices to affordable housing facilities.
